The prolific reproduction of these pests makes them not only annoying but an increased risk to health around you and your family.

  • Queens come out of hibernation early Spring main periods of activity July - October.
  • Feed on fruit and sweet things
  • They can nest anywhere
  • The nest is made from 'wasp paper' - a mixture of wood and saliva

What's the Difference Between Hornets & Wasps?

Hornets are a type of wasp, nest in the same way and can require the same method of wasp nest removal. They are known to be less aggressive than wasps if unprovoked but their stings are more painful because of the chemicals found in their venom. Hornets tend to be rounder than wasps, have brown, red and yellow/orange markings on their bodies and can grow up to 5.5cm in length.

When Do You Need Wasp Pest Control?

Wasps carry out seemingly unprovoked attacks when they feel threatened which in turn send out a pheromone to nearby colony members who join to defend themselves. Their painful stings also carry great risk to those with allergies causing difficulties breathing, dizziness, a swollen face and can send sufferers into anaphylaxis - a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

Wasps can be beneficial as they feed their young with caterpillars and other insects that may be pests in gardens. Wasp treatment and wasp nest removal should only be carried out if they pose a risk to public health and safety.

Wasp Nest Removal From Your Property

Making their nests in sheltered spots such as hollow trees, disused mouse holes, garages or sheds, detecting wasp nests in your property can also be difficult at they can build their home in inaccessible wall cavities or loft eaves. Swarming insects, buzzing noises and evidence of grey/brown papery material from their nest can help indicate a colony nearby.

Swarming wasps too near you and your home can be unsettling for your family. Wasps near your business can be unattractive to customers and are a potential public safety hazard.
